About
Robert Maszkowski and Béla Inkster aka The Transients are known for creating catchy melodies with tight polished production, dishing up everything from pounding gritty basslines, to feel-good pop songs and laidback percussive instrumentals. Both graduates from the WA Academy Of Performing Arts (WAAPA), they started making music together in 2006 and in late 2008 won Artist of the Year and Best Dance/Electronica Artist in the Musicoz Awards. Since then they released the single, Hey You! (2010 - available on iTunes worldwide) and a five-track EP, Crossfades (2009 - MGM in Australia and available on iTunes worldwide). The EP was co-produced and mixed by Lee Groves (Goldfrapp, Depeche Mode, Bertie Blackman) and included the singles, One Day and Mischa and featured the vocal talents of Jasmine Yee, previously of Perth indie band Halogen and guest on Pendulum's Hold Your Colour. The Transients were nominated as Best Live Electronic Act in the WAMi Awards 2009 and 2010; were a top 10 finalist in Nova's I Am With The Band competition (2010); uncharTED top 50 finalists (2009), Garage To V finalists (2008 & 2009), Garageband 'Track Of The Week' (2008); and were Future Music Magazine's 'Demo Of The Month' (2008). Playing live as a four-piece, which includes Jasmine Yee on vocals and Daniel Cavalli on drums, they toured Sydney, Brisbane and the central coast in 2010 and showcased at BigSound (2010) and One Movement (2009) and have played at festivals such as Southbound, Stereosonic, Summadayze, Good Vibrations, Perth International Arts Festival and Parklife, and supported artists like Sia, Walter Meego, Van She, Muscles, Grafton Primary, ELF and Dukes Of Windsor. The single, Hey You! and tunes from the EP (along with the remixes by Kid Kenobi, Clubfeet and Carl Fox) were added to daily rotation on Radar, Raw FM, Joy FM, FBi, RTRFM and SYN and have received spot plays on Triple J, Nova, Austereo network, 96FM, Power FM, Magic (SA), Flow FM, WAFM, HotFM, RAGE and community radio stations around the country. The singles, One Day and Mischa, were also Hit Pick's in the Music Industry Network magazine. The Transients wrote several tracks for a film directed by Ben C. Lucas called Wasted on the Young, which premiered at Sydney Film Festival in June 2010 and screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2010. The film is released in cinemas in Australia on March 3 through Paramount Pictures. The track, One Day was also recently synced to the US ABC TV show, Scoundrels.
