Junior Giant
About

Junior Giant is four-piece band fronted by 21-year-old music prodigy and pro skier Spencer Linsley. Their sound is a blend of upbeat indie rock with alternative guitar driven beats and catchy hooks. The band’s youthful exuberance informs the lyrics and their dynamic live performances.

Music has been a part of Spencer’s life since the age of 4 when he got his first guitar. He learned to play his Fender Stratocaster by learning his favorite song, Green Day’s Basket Case. At age 5 he started playing piano and learned how to read music. At 16, Spencer began to write songs and lay down tracks in a local studio under the guidance of his father, Brian Linsley.

Spencer’s love of music ultimately led him to form Junior Giant in 2008 along with his childhood friends JT Nebeker on bass, Skip Hardy on drums and father Brian Linsley on guitar. The band released their first album Blue Boy in 2009, and followed up with their latest, Truth North in 2010.

Junior Giant recently filmed a music video inspired by James Bond’s 1977 classic film The Spy Who Loved Me for their single “Heyla”. Shot over 4 days at Solitude Mountain Resort ski resort, the end result is a fun filled video that pays homage to the unforgettable chase scene in the original film and ends with the band performing live to hundreds of enthusiastic fans dancing and singing along.

Junior Giant is managed by Paul Geary of AGPS Management and future plans include expanding touring and connecting with fans across the country. The band has good exposure in Europe and they would like nothing more than to take six months to play to an International base.

Spencer Linsley grew up with a passion for music, but by spending his childhood in Utah he developed a love for skiing. In Spring of 2002, Spencer honed his skills as a Freeskier developing his own charismatic style of park free skiing and Big Mountain. By 13 he had landed sponsorships with Scott USA, Orage for Apparel, Salomon, and Snowbird Mountain Resort.

Spencer competed in the US Open and the X-Games in 2002-2006. In the winter of 2008, he designed and maintained the Terrain Park at Solitude Mountain Resort. He’s a licensed EMT professional and certified by ATF to handle explosives used in avalanche control. Fire in the hole!

Guitarist Brian Linsley has been a staple in the music industry for many years. Brian co-founded the Jim Carroll Band which signed with ATCO/Rolling Stones Records in 1980. Their hit, People Who Died has become a punk classic and has been featured in films as diverse as Speilberg’s E.T. to The Darwin Awards, Dawn of Dead and of course Basketball Diaries, the autobiographical coming of age story about Jim Carroll. Brian has shared the stage with rock legends including Keith Richards, Patti Smith, the Allman Brothers and Blue Oyster Cult. He now shares the stage with his son, Spencer and Junior Giant.

JT also grew up skiing and snowboarding in the mountains of Utah, but met his childhood friends, Spencer and Skip, not on the slopes but as teammates on the lacrosse field. As a lacrosse player, JT graduated as an All-American winning state championships in 03,04, and 06. In the 2004 victory JT played attack and Skip played defense. In 05, as 1st baseman, he shared the diamond with Spencer at 3rd base, resulting in another championship. From there, JT’s lacrosse talents took him to the college circuit where he was named Offensive MVP and league All-American. In his sophomore year JT could no longer ignore the lure of the music and traded in his stick and pads for a bass guitar joining his childhood friends in their pursuit of a musical career.
